Iakovos Potamianos – Perception, Form and Light
This book attempts to investigate light from a perceptual stand point. To this end, it presents certain theories of visual perception and discusses some of their similarities and differences. It focuses on Gestalt theory, explaining in a relatively simple manner the basic principles and laws of perception developed by this school. It also presents certain fundamental concepts of the Ecological Approach to Visual Perception of J. Gibson. The knowledge of perception is supportive to a deeper understanding of the issues of light which are investigated next. It examines a number of related topics, such as the various types of light and shadow, placing an emphasis on their perceptual aspects and on the kinds of sensations that they generate as well as the manner in which they assist the emersion of form in perception.
